You, The Living
我在一堆陈年光碟堆中发现这部电影，大概是老弟上课时老师的分享。我按着滑鼠推前拉后想看个大概再决定是否继续，然后我被一格格的定格画面吓傻了！太像画了，我对老蛋说。演员们说着我听不懂的话，从画面来看我这真以为是西班牙画家Antonio Lopez Garcia 的崇拜者的致敬之作。那种绿中带紫，两色交互铺排制造出的高级灰色调，清澈平静。导演及艺术指导摒弃了戏剧化的强光重影，改用色调微差变化来营造大气层次 (atmospheric perspective) ，配合维梅尔式的构图勾画出的纵深感，还有杰出的化妆术，难怪卫报review会评 “...with a technical, compositional rigour that puts other movie-makers and visual artists to shame。”

懒洋洋的下午，店里音响轻轻播放着乡乐木吉他曲调，点一壶日本绿茶，拿一本独立漫画，就这样又耗了一个周末。
别傻了！我怎么会用这样的开场白。单看第一句我已经起鸡皮疙瘩，那些所谓时尚杂志的写手摆明就是词穷，还要故作浪漫欺骗小资。用餐这回事本来最简单不过，老子饿了，要吃，你给我弄几个小菜，再来杯茶，吃饱了付账，拍拍屁股走人。可不就是因为社会进步，结构改变，用餐在现代复杂得多了。I pay to enjoy，吃一饨饭，除了吃饭，还要吃气氛，吃环境，吃音乐，吃文化。
我给你介绍一个地方，街边小店，门市和装潢非常低调，却充满心意。说是homemade，所以店里的陈设到菜单都很 原汁原味。你可以吃到不错的日本餐，加上第一句的写每一件事（如果你够烂漫）。你也可以向老板娘定做布袋（如果你坚持手作）。你还可以和老板聊聊为何在餐厅墙上挂上臭脚油画（当然，如果老板在话）。

Manga-influenced, Globalisation or just mere co-incident?
Often we heard people saying students from the same college carry the same style. I guess this is something unavoidably common. With the blooming of internet, there is hardly anything absolutely new. People interact, share, download and copy, imitate and modify...like the common saying: the world is flat.
It is not by intension that I put the following images together so that to prove my points, just that my interest has lead me to juxtapose the images together and try to search for something in common. The following images are done by the hot-cake- illustrators in the States. What did you see? Manga-influenced? Globalisation or just mere co-incident? Maybe simply because most of them were nurtured by the same soil and water.

当世界已经乱成一团，剪不断理还乱，那解决方法有二；一是把它彻底毁灭，重来；二是一步一步用诚实爱心来改变它。詹宏志说他从来没有怀疑过这世界找出路的能力，言下之意即是不要太悲观，always look at the bright side of life。
朋友的父亲说他在英国念书时上街示威，争取的就是堕胎合法化。为的不是放弃生命，而是如果没有办法阻止未婚先孕的发生，只有让堕胎的年轻妈妈得到最安全的医疗及最好的事后辅导。再不然，就要像 Juno 的制作班底一样，拍部轻松小品，用幽默来开导未婚先孕的妈妈及身边的人。

这个二十来岁的小女孩叫 Ellen Page，就是那个演Juno暴红的加拿大演员。你看她在Juno的演出会被她感动。再google一下她其他的演出，都反映着社会问题。
我希望她的演艺生涯也健康成长，不好步 Linsay Lohan或 Macaulay Culkin后尘。

全宇宙最好看的动画片
你看了全宇宙最好看的动画片了吗？
如果还没，那请一定要看，还要把小孩也去，而且一定要看到最后，一起温习人类的文明史，艺术史。
Pixar就是Pixar，在开创了数码动画的先河后，在片尾似乎在暗示，当文明发展到最后，那只能reboot，从来一次。。。
当然最大的挑战是，如果只听机器人对话，你能忍多久？这，也似乎是向Stanley Kubrick 的2001：A Space Odyssey 致敬。
我更加期待Pixar的下一步动画了。

从洞穴喻到影像
在《理想国》第七卷，柏拉图作了一个著名的比喻，其直接目的是要揭示“受过教育的人与没受过教育的人的本质”的不同及相关问题，人们一般称之为“洞穴喻 Allegory of the Cave”。
有一个洞穴式的地下室，一条长长的通道通向外面，有微弱的阳光从通道里照进来。有一些囚徒从小就住在洞穴中，头颈和腿脚都被绑着，不能走动也不能转头，只能朝前看着洞穴后壁。
在他们背后的上方，远远燃烧着一个火炬。在火炬和人的中间有一条隆起的道路，同时有一堵低墙。在这堵墙的后面，向着火光的地方，又有些别的人。他们手中拿着各色各样的假人或假兽，把它们高举过墙，让他们做出动作，这些人时而交谈，时而又不做声。
于是，这些囚徒只能看见投射在他们面前的墙壁上的影像。他们将会把这些影像当作真实的东西，他们也会将回声当成影像所说的话。
此时，假如有一个囚徒被解除了桎梏，被迫突然站起来，可以转头环视，他现在就可以看见事物本身了：但他们却以为他现在看到的是非本质的梦幻，最初看见的影像才是真实的。
而假如有人把他从洞穴中带出来，走到阳光下面，他将会因为光线的刺激而觉得眼前金星乱蹦，以至什么也看不见。他就会恨那个把他带到阳光之下的人，认为这人使他看不见真实事物，而且给他带来了痛苦。
不过柏拉图认为，只要有一个逐渐习惯的过程，他的视力就可以恢复，首先大概看阴影最容易，其次是看人或事物在水中的倒影，再次是看事物本身，在夜间观察天象，之后就可以在白天看太阳本身了。
此时他便明白：“造成四季交替和年岁周期的主宰可见世界一切事物的正是这个太阳，它也就是他们过去通过某种曲折看见的所有那些事物的原因。”
于是他回想当初穴居的情形，就会庆幸自己在认识上的变化而对同伴表示遗憾。他既已见到了事物之本身，便宁愿忍受任何痛苦也不愿意再过囚徒生活。
然而，如果他复回洞中，那些同伴不仅不信其言，还会觉得他到上面走了一趟，回来眼睛就坏了，对“影像”竟不能如从前那样辨别。他的同伴们不仅不想出去，甚至想把那位带他出洞的人逮住杀掉。

我介绍最近才发现的剪影艺术家 Rob Ryan 给老蛋。又兴致勃勃地谈到童话大师安徒生一生也创作了不少剪影艺术。同事Bryan 也用影子作创作。

老蛋神情淡然地说：
“哦。。。我小时候也在庙堂帮我阿公剪小人啊。。。”
哈哈哈哈! 绝!

AIDES Poster Illustration
Well, this is interesting. 2 cutting edge NY based illustrator, both graduated from SVA, were given the same brief to create an illustration for Aids awareness campaign.

I guess they choose James Jean's version in the end. Obviously, James Jean's version looks more suitable for the theme. Check out the rest of the illustration.
This campaign also won a Bronze Lion at Cannes.

几乎任何伟大的文学，戏剧，电影作品都有一个共同点。即当时间流逝过后，你再也无法挽回，留下的遗憾让你开始对时间有不一样的诠释。而这些伟大的作品，就在探讨及表现人与时间产生交集的时刻。
哪。。。今天是父亲节，我就再一次看了一次智海的爸爸。
黑白的漫画就有这样的力量，单调的画面，对比强烈的大黑大白，却又有一种近乎死亡的寂寞。
智海运用漫画语言的功夫到家，它不必太多对白，也不像电影。他，就是要表达看漫画的“静”。
